Layout Design Chihuly Magazine

In this project we were asked to create a biographic magazine about one of our favorite artists. I chose Dale Chihuly, a famous glass blower. I learned about him in high school and his art has had an impact on me ever since. Chihuly’s work has inspired me to create in an abstract and colorful way, and his work has reminded me to create things that I think aren’t possible.

Sketches

These are the sketches for the magazine. My professor wanted us to plan out every detail of the layout so that we had an initial plan to go off of when the design process started. The sketches had to be in proportion to the actual dimensions of the booklet. After the sketching process was finished I found a color scheme and started looking for reference photos.

Final Designs

This design process was grueling, yet so rewarding. This was the first time I had ever done a big project in InDesign and I had no idea what to expect. I learned a lot during this project, mostly that designing bigger projects can be a struggle in the beginning but can come together nicely in the end. Patience is key when designing bigger projects. I credit my success on this project to the professor who inspired me to work harder. This was one of my most favorite projects to complete because it was one of the first times that I felt proud of a project in college.
